About Nathan Melcher...
Nathan Melcher teaches adult performance-track improv classes and coaches youth improv performance teams at the Brave New Workshop Comedy Theater in Minneapolis, MN. He trained at the BNW (1998-2000), the ComedySportz - Twin Cities Minor Leagues (2006), and at several improv festival workshops from a variety of instructors (2000-2005). He has performed at eleven improv festivals across North America and in 2003 he co-founded The Caseous Company (2003-2005), the premiere sketch comedy troupe in Wyoming.
Nathan teamed up with Rick Simineo to perform as improv duo Puny Humans at the Chicago Improv Festival (2004), the Toronto Improv Festival (2005), and the inaugural Denver Improv Festival (2005). Nathan premiered his solo show, DOC, at the Miami Improv Festival (2006) and has performed his solo musical improv showcase, The Uncle Ukulele Show, locally in HUGE Theater's "Return of the Bearded Gentlemen" (2007), Improv A Go-Go (2007-2009), the Monday Night Comedy Show (2007-2009), and traveled to the Gainesville Improv Festival (2007), the San Francisco Improv Festival (2008 co-headliner), the Santa Cruz Improv Festival (2008 co-headliner), the Milwaukee Comedy Festival (2008, 2009 headliner), the Denver Improv Festival (2008), and the Chicago Improv Festival (2009).
Nathan wrote feature articles for international improv resource website YESand.com, is a five-time award-winning editorial cartoonist, and is co-founder of and resident blogger for Scrawlers.com, an online writing workshop encouraging original 100-word short stories. He holds a BA in Film Studies from the University of Minnesota and an MFA in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato; he taught English composition, literature and creative writing at MSU and Normandale Community College. Nathan is the Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries at Excelsior United Methodist Church, is the volunteer dean of LYFE Camp, a week-long UMC youth summer camp focusing on building faith and friendships, and is a first-year M.Div seminary student at United Theolgical Seminary. He and his wife, Kelly, live in Hopkins, MN.
